We need to believe in something divine without the need for god, something we might call love or goodness. Indeed as the psalm says: Whither shall I go from the spirit, whither shall I flee from thy presence? If ascend unto heaven thou are there. If I make my bed in hell behold thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,even there shall thy hand lead me,and the right hand shall hold me.
