Brooke Shields was an idol and well-known figure of the 1980s. Before appearing in Louis Malle's controversial movie Pretty Baby at the age of 12, she was a children's model. With a series of provocative Kevin Clay jeans advertisements and her role as the protagonist in the 1980s youth pornography blockbusters Blue Lagoon and Endless Love, Hiltz's early career was defined by a sexual orientation that she could neither claim nor understand. In this two-part documentary, director Lana Wilson ("Miss America", 2020 Sundance Film Festival) reveals the story of Hiltz through media appearances and archival clips, providing a complete background for Hiltz's adulthood in public. Wilson created a space for the adult Hilts to share her wisdom, vulnerability, and humanity, while reflecting on her career and life, including her complex relationship with her mother Terry, her marriage to Andre Agassi, and her own struggle with her mother. Pretty Baby is honest and sharp: Brooke Shields criticizes a toxic culture and power structure that perpetuates misogyny and colludes with the sexualization and objectification of young girls.
