In 1849, Hungary's liberation war against the Habsburg Empire was nearing its end. After evading conscription, Barnabas left his hometown and traveled across the country to search for and rescue his injured brother, who had been hiding in a guerrilla unit deep in the forest. Despite their exhaustion, lack of food or information, they are still fighting for their cause. Barnabas discovered that his brother was alienated and distrusted. When the boys were attracted to the same nurse in the camp, the tension between them further intensified. Hoping he could win his brother's trust and bring him home, Barnabas decided to stay and lie about his past. At the same time, he had to face the cruelty of war.
