Metello worked hard to overcome the poverty that led to premature death of his parents, which was also the fate of the working class in northern Italy in the second half of the 19th century. Metello strives to break free from his own situation by working hard, inheriting his father's steadfast will to resist oppression, and utilizing his beauty when interacting with women. Metello gradually played an important role in organizing an emerging labor movement and attempted to reconcile his dangerous political activities with his private life.
