In 14th century England, a rural woman named Christine Carpenter was deeply attracted by a statue of the Virgin Mary, to the extent that the local pastor (who had a special liking for her) suggested her as a female anchor, a sacred woman responsible for praying for the villagers. But when the priest tried Christine's mother as a witch, she emerged from her cell and the punishment for this crime was the death penalty.
