I've read both the book and the surviver guide and I can tell you that the feature film is not the World War Z that I know. The movie lacks the meticulousness and social-political implications of a zombie apocalypse that made the book a national best seller. What I see on screen is another typical zombie flick that tries so hard to bring what is in the book into the film, but it fails miserably. I'm left wondering whether if the movie would be better served if it was made in a way like how the book was written, as a memoir instead of an action film filled with stories told by survivors. It would have been much more interesting and loyal to the title of the film. It is not to say that the movie completely lacks flair and room for praise as it is action packed and nail-biting, but I am disappointed because it bears the name of one of my favourite books.
