Salute to Pulse is a collaborative work between American filmmaker Bill Morrison and Danish composer and percussionist Simon Christensen. Christensen initially envisioned the project as a tribute to four American composers: Charles Ives (1874-1954), Conan South Carolina (1912-1997), Steve Reich (born in 1936), and Trent Rezno (born in 1965). Morrison used meticulously deteriorated nitrate archival film to weave a story from the remnants of different narratives. These interludes intermittently appear between the decaying undulating pulses of the movie, where the images are compromised by a dying celluloid medium, a rusty container carrying ghosts, but become even more poignant. Compared to the first three parts, the last part is a contemporary aerial shot of the original single shot "Ship Cemetery" near Staten Island, New York.
