和看之前的想象差不多，《死者》前2/3是很好改編的。生動暗諷的對話，聚餐、舞會、音樂，電影的視聽藝術(shù)把原著中無法感知（但又非常需要具像化體驗）的部分呈現(xiàn)出來，聽到《盛裝待嫁》和《奧芙里姆的少女》很滿足，歌詞都太美了，原文里只有節(jié)選的歌詞，前者甚至沒有歌詞。
相比之下，后1/3簡直是改編災(zāi)難，但問題在于，怎么表現(xiàn)喬伊斯詩一般的語言？怎么展現(xiàn)人物的意識流和內(nèi)心獨白？喬伊斯用詩的語言呈現(xiàn)加布里埃爾對愛情和婚姻煽情的、濫情的回憶和想象，在格麗塔對一個為自己而死的男孩的敘述面前
