Mike Lambert is an unemployed mining engineer who arrived at a small town with a bang when the brakes of the truck he was driving malfunctioned. After encountering tempting Paula at La Paloma Cafe, he found himself in legal trouble. Paula glanced at him a few times, paid a fine, and found him a room, but her motivation was not as it appeared. Mike was fortunate enough to find a job for miner Jeff Cunningham, but he went against his own will and became increasingly involved in Paula's plan
