劇集主創(chuàng)David Simon在提到第二季時候說“The second season of The Wire, centered around Baltimore's dying port unions, is a meditation on the death of work and the betrayal of the American working class, it is a deliberate argument that unencumbered capitalism is not a substitute for social policy, that on its own, without a social compact, raw capitalism is destined to serve the few at the expense of the many.”
這一季，便血淋淋地展現(xiàn)了一個階級的尊嚴(yán)如何被政客和體制玩弄于股掌間。
一切都源于Frank通過工會振興港口的雄心。為了籌得政治獻金，F(xiàn)rank冒險幫助走私團伙利用碼頭裝卸的空子的走私，賺取微薄的勞務(wù)費，再把這些錢送到各個議員手中打點。一年，兩年，港口提案無望，F(xiàn)rank只能在這個惡性循環(huán)的怪圈里彌足深陷，最終害得自己送命，侄子Nick販毒，兒子Ziggy入獄。
Frank的死亡，象征著一個階層努力自救卻最終被時代洪流無情淹沒的縮影。
