The background is set in 1989. Jack (Hammond) is an unemployed photojournalist. He struggles with drug addiction and troubled past. He works as the caretaker of a wilderness hut on a remote island in the Pacific Northwest, and works with veteran Spaki (Granger). Jack set up a darkroom to develop the photos he took, which began to reveal a sense of unease about their future.
