In the two-hour mini series produced by the renowned British producer October Pictures for BBC Channel 2, journalist and former British soldier Adnan Sawar returns to Iraq to explore how the country has changed since he served in the Iraq War. In 2003, 24-year-old Adnan Sawal arrived in Iraq with the British army. He initially believed that his mission was to liberate the people of the country from the hands of Saddam Hussein, but when some people turned against the Allies, Adnan's life was forever changed by an ambush that killed one of his friends. Savar witnessed firsthand how the expulsion of Saddam led to more violence and ultimately led to the establishment of ISIS. Now, with the disappearance of ISIS, he will return to Iraq, rediscover the country outside of headline news and war, and meet ordinary people rebuilding their lives. On his journey from the top to the bottom of Iraq, from snowy peaks to arid deserts, Savar will venture through ancient mountaintop villages, ISIS tunnels, and magnificent canyons; Sleeping under the starry sky with the locals. He will accompany the mine sweeping team in Mosul, where people are returning home and releasing bears near an old palace of Saddam Hussein with wildlife activists; Meet popular singers, all female combat forces, archaeologists, oil workers, LGBT activists, and ordinary Iraqis from various industries. But as sectarian violence, ISIS undercover organizations, and deadly bomb attacks remain daily realities, Adnan explores whether this country can break the cycle of violence and build a better future.
