But when a burial site was discovered with the bodies of approximately 8000 slaves inside, her role underwent a huge change. Due to the injustice of South Africa's apartheid history and the desecration of these sacred African cemeteries, Van Neil sought justice for the remains in a movement to expose the deeply unsettling connection between Britain and its colonial heritage.
